Thrifted Tuesday: Rainbow Bright

I was inspired by color this weekend and I love how colorful this outfit is.  Yesterday was Memorial Day and we went to High Falls for some free and amazing swimming and fun in the sun.  I had a great time splashing around in the waterfalls, and as I sat in what looked and felt like paradise, (a rock ledge at the base of the falls), I noticed that I was surrounded by little rainbows all around from the sun shining through the cascading water.  It was a great way to begin the summer, and my skin even got a little color too, which is good because we are heading to the beach next week!

My new trick:  If you have a shirt that you love but gapes too much in the front or has a really low V, pull the fabric at the nape of your neck and pin it tighter with a safety pin, that way the neckline won't be as low and if you have long enough hair no one can tell with your hair down!  I hate layers so I like this trick as opposed to wearing a camisole underneath.  Another trick, the belt is actually a thrifted necklace!

Shirt, earrings, and belt (Thrifted)  Shoes (Fergie) Skirt (Express Sale)

I also wanted to do an update of my weight loss challenge.  I have been trying really hard and....

Today (Tuesday)

You can see my toenail polish disappearing along with them lbs!  I started at 126 and almost to my goal of 120, not bad since I have been lifting too.  I tell you, juicing is miracle worker.

Vintage Finds: 2

One of my first blog posts was Vintage Finds, where I talked about some great treasures I found at places like antique stores, thrift stores, and yard sales, and I am back with some new favorite pieces we have brought home.

This past week was the Highway 11 yard sale and it starts basically in my town and ends in KY.  You could imagine my disappointment that lack of time and resources prohibited me from renting a Uhaul and going on a crazy all weekend road trip to stop at every single one.  I went to about 10 and got a few things, and I was happy with that!  One cool thing about yard selling is experiencing the culture of the south and meeting a lot of friendly people.  They go all out for this yard sale, you can find lemonaid stands, good food, and collectors even set up to show off all of their goods that they have no intention of selling.  But its cool to see what they have collected and it often inspires me with old art, textures, shapes, and colors.  One thing that I thought was really interesting was a match book collection that were all lined up and inside of a large picture frame.  At first you couldn't tell what it was, just a combination of cool colors, graphics, and typography, but when I saw that it was match books collected from hundreds of places around the world, I was in love.  So much interest could be packed into such a small space on your wall.

One of my favorite purchases were two vintage skinny belts that I got for a quarter from the stylish lady that wore them herself back in the day.  I also talked to a seller that was selling a bunch of cool old furniture that he tried to give his kids, but the twenty-something kids didn't have any interest in them...I asked if he could adopt me.  He just laughed.  I also had a lady desperately try to sell me a pair of very large pants with the skinniest ankles I ever saw, that she said I might be able to squeeze into haha.  If I had need for a giant denim funnel that would have been a done deal but I had to say "no thank you."

So here are some of favorite newish things.  Some are the first of the collection I plan to start, some are already apart of repurposing planning, and some are just things I stumbled upon, fell in love with, and gave a home.

Mirror (Auction) Lamp Shade Skeleton (found at old bard) Rocker (Auction)
This rocker will be perfect in a little girl nursery one day!  And I am thinking of making a mobile out of the metal shade.

Old trumpet that we turned into a lamp, works great!  We had to guide the wiring through the twists and turns of the trumpet, have you ever seen anything so cool?  Of course not.
Trumpet (Father in Laws garage) Lamp shade (Dirt Cheap) Lamp wiring (old Lamp I got for a dollar at a yard sale!)

Metal Lamp Shade, way cool after ugly old glass is removed,  plus it was exposed to the elements so long it had a cool rusty look.

Old metal basket.  A collection of these hung on the wall is what I am going for. (Antique Store)

I got a few of this tarnished silver dishes last weekend, $2 a piece, and a great place to keep my rings while working in the kitchen.
Plate( Yard Sale)

Old container great for holding kitchen utensils.  (Dishmans Antiques and Salvage)

I found this wooden frame laying outside where I found the metal lamp shade, how cool!
Frame (found) Silver flower plate (Yard Sale) Pretty table cloth (Dirt Cheap)

A friend gave me this old coal bucket, it was used in a jail!  Now, that it has done its time in prison, it can live with me and hold pretty flowers, much better.
Bucket (gift)
I love old mirrors, another collection thats in the making,  This is an old candle holder that I plan to use to hold bows "when I have a little girl"
Future Bow holder (Antique Store)  Mirror (Dishmans)

Love this new candle, Summer Boardwalk from Bath and Body Works.  It smells so yummy!
Had to dress up the ugly cable box.  Doily (from Mom)
I can't get enough of old mixed with new, and I love being surrounded by interesting things.  I also think its important to get rid of things you aren't using anymore to make room for new great finds, so whether you are going to yard sales, or having one, I think you are on the right track to making a home that you love.

Cohen's One Year Pics

SO handsome!

He stands!

Sweetest smile.

This one makes me laugh.

Pretending to sail the open seas.

Taking after Grandaddy.

This was the hardest one year old photo shoot ever!  Cohen didn't want to pose a bit, he was more interested in exploring the studio, but somehow David and I managed to get a few good shots of the little wiggle worm!  I painted the clouds with watercolors and we hung them from fishing line.  My aunt got this little piano at a thrift store and he loves playing it!  The pirate ship was hand made his grandfather, Brain Huff,  and he fit perfectly in it sitting down, we just couldn't get him to sit!  I love these photos of my sweet boy, they are just like him, one of a kind!

The Challenge

This week I did went to the longest yard sale in the world, found some comic books for Cam that turned out to be worth a lot of money, photographed a wedding, and watched a LOT of basketball.  We also took Cohen's one year pics and I am working on getting them all done!  I also have eaten a lot of chocolate lately which brings me to the point of this blog post!

The beach trip.  Most everyone goes on at least one every summer, and most everyone sits there around their Thanksgiving turkeys believing that by the time the summer beach trip comes, that they will have gotten into shape by that annual deadline, of summer.  This was at least my experience with the lie I told myself every year.  In fact, I would often argue with myself daily that each bad thing I ate or I skipped the gym would't matter in the long run, but then the summer comes, as it always does, and I did not feel good about the way I looked.  In fact every bad thing I ate and day I skipped the gym not only mattered, but was on display for the world to see.  Thats not a good way to spend a vacation, feeling self conscious.  Now, everyone is different but I will admit that this is how I felt, and it didn't feel good.  I often wondered what it might be like to find myself bravely taking off my coverup on the beach to reveal a healthy toned body, instead of wishing I hadn't made all of those bad decisions all year long.

As my family's beach trip approaches, I find myself feeling pretty close to that good feeling I had long fantasized about, but I know I am not there yet.  I have been juicing, working out, and choosing my meals wisely, all the while keeping my Sunday cheat days.  I have done this for a WHOLE year, so this wasn't just a fad, this is my lifestyle now.  Without the support of my mother-in-law, and sister-in-law,  I know I couldn't have made this change in my life.  Support systems are very helpful!

These past couple of weeks I have gained a few pounds, and I absolutely know its because I have been getting sloppy with my workouts and portion sizes.  I have not worked this hard all year to just creep back up to my original weight, plus I just want to be as healthy as possible.  So I decided to make a goal, and a challenge, to lose 6 lbs by June 2nd, in other words, 12 days.  If I lose more thats great, but this is my goal, and I really hope I can do it!

Current weight-126
Goal weight-120

Plan:  Exercise 4 days a week with 30 min cardio, and 20 min lifting.  Might not seem that much but, hey thats a lot to ask when you have a baby!
Drink green juice every day and eat a diet that excludes any item that is processed, fried, and sugary.
The only thing I am going to drink besides green juice and water is almond milk.  This is basically how I already eat, but the difference will be portion control and cutting out late night snacking, also, I will be kicking up my cardio and lifting.

Usual breakfast, green juice and oatmeal  (Oats, almond milk, blueberries, banana, walnuts, whole red sprouted wheat, flax, honey, and cinnamon)  Thats a lot of power food packed into those two!  The crazy thing is, you can train your
tastebuds to like this stuff.

So here I go, I will post my progress next Sunday!

Thrifted Tuesday: Momma Mia

Thrifted Tuesday: Momma Mia!

This outfit combines thrifted and gifted, Mothers Day gifted that is!  This was my second Mothers Day and I am so thankful for my little boy who has made me the happiest luckiest mother ever!
Everyday I get to play with Cohen and go on adventures with him I am so thankful that he was sent to me.  He loves to make people smile, and he is always smiling himself.  He dances as soon as he hears even the faintest sound of music.  He loves making music himself, and even head bangs from time to time, although I have no clue where he learned it.  He is beginning to walk which brings me to tears.  He is getting more and more cute everyday.  This Mothers Day weekend his daddy and him took me to dinner, and gave me these very cute wedges.  Sunday morning as we were leaving for church, I got in the car and sat on my second present, a Lucky Brand bracelet I have been eyeing every time I go to the mall.  It is silver with big detailed lilies.  Cohen gave me a gold locket this Sunday with a tiny picture of him in it!  I couldn't love anything more!
I wore this outfit on Cinco de Mayo,  and it reminded of Mexico, with its flowers and bright pops of color.  I didn't like the way the excess of my braided belt was hanging so held them in place with two bright blue earrings.

Shirt and Skirt (thrifted), skinny braided belt (old), Blue earrings on belt (thrifted) Wooden Hoop Earrings (thrifted), Wedges, locket, and flower bracelet (Mothers Day gifts!)

I love this little guy, he doesn't have my same love for clothes though lol.  Being a mom is not always easy, it requires sacrifice from the second you learn you are expecting.  It is putting someone before yourself and making sure they are protected, nurtured, and loved.  I would do anything for my child.  I can't explain the happiness and peace I feel knowing that me and my family will be together forever.  I cannot express my appreciation to a Heavenly Father who blessed me with this family, and all of our many blessings.  I am sad to say that there was a time in my life where I was kind of lost, and felt lost, when I didn't pray at night, when I forgot the source of true peace, of true happiness that only comes with doing what is right and following my heart.  I remember the day I decided that I was done being unhappy, done being, well dumb.  I knew what I wanted and I knew the direction I should go in.  As soon as I had this change of heart, everything fell into place, and even when things got rough from time to time I could always rely on my Heavenly Father to help me through it, because I had repaired my relationship with Him.  Knowing that He loves me no matter what I have done and wants to forgive me when I repent, helps me better love others around me, and forgive.  Its like your heart is softened and you become meek, which is weird because you feel stronger than you ever have.   I am thankful for my Mom who raised me in The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints.  I am thankful I didn't forget the happiness and peace the Gospel brought me growing up.   I guess I am just thankful.  And happy.  Feels allllright :)

Thrifted Tuesday: Lacy Day

Thrifted Tuesday: Lacy Day

Not a lazy, but lacy day.
Today I got so very much accomplished, which is why this blog post is so late!  But I'll tell you this much, I played with my baby boy all day, worked out, found a cute thrifted outfit and got ready, ran errands, went mulberry picking, got messy, made muffins, and my house is the cleanest house you've ever seen.  Yea, I'm kind of bragging, but it was a good day!

I love this lacy outfit and I love lace!  We all went mulberry picking today and it was the funniest thing ever, I can't even explain how funny.  But we all, including Cohen got rained on my a mulberry tree and left with a ton of them to take home!  My clothes got ruined, but I will have fun making them over for another blog in the future :)

This green chair was from the thrift store and was $4.  It was plain wood but I painted it green for the living room.  I love the idea of using old wooden chairs like this for bedside tables or a place to store a stack of coffee table books.

Purple lace cardigan and lace top (thrifted), belt (thrifted),  Skirt and Wedges (forever 21),
Necklace (trade day),  Green Chair (thrifted)

Cohen with his mulberry stained face :) He loved them too.

Mulberry Muffins with Honey Goat Cheese Filling.

I couldn't stop eating the mulberries! So yummy! They taste like blackberries mixed with blueberries I think.  These muffins turned out so great!  I will post the recipe tomorrow, cause everyone is waiting for me to start a movie...
