Winter Palette & a Winter Wedding

Woo Hoo,  I had to give a talk at church and now that's over with.  Hopefully no more talks for a couple years but we will see.  I am pretty proud of my little joke I made, people actually laughed and that settled my nerves quite a bit. My joke had to do with my love of clothes and oh how that is ever true.  I stayed up until four in the morning and almost was trampled by Black Friday shopping warriors to get my hands on this skirt for 50% off, and I love it so very much.  It is the prettiest soft peach color and I think it paired well with this diamond patterned baby blue cardigan.  I had a hard time pairing shoes with this outfit, but that was because these ones, the ones in the photos were not in my closet but were in the kitchen, so I was thrilled when I remembered them.  This little silver purse was thrifted and gives just a touch of icy shimmer on this icy cold day.  Cameron got me this jade bracelet for Christmas, I am in love with it!  He is getting really good at picking things out for me.

A Lovely Winter Wedding

I photographed this wedding yesterday at the Birmingham temple, I usually don't share my photography on my personal blog but I want that to change so I will be posting a lot more photos.  Here is this beautiful couple who are now honeymooning in Gatlinburg!  Congrats to the new Mr. & Mrs. Green!

I hope everyone has a warm and cozy Sunday.

Christmas Sunday Style

Belt, Necklace & Shoes (ShopRuche) Tights (Modcloth) BB Dakota Coat (UO) Dress (Forever21)

I have wanted this coat all Fall and it finally went on sale this Christmas, I didn't realize how much I would love it until I put it on and I loved the green/blue combo against my hair, I think this coat was made for me!  Nothing says Christmas Sunday like a pop of red, and I wore these today and felt it was just seasonal enough.

Today, we are going to my family's big Christmas Eve Eve party, I am excited to see everyone and get in the Christmas spirit.  I have so many gifts to wrap and so little time, so on that note, I hope everyone has a lovely holiday!!  Got to get packing!  Merry Christmas!!

Dec 21, 2012

I am looking forward to writing an outfit post soon, hopefully tomorrow.  All of the holiday blogging DIY plans and outfits post got pushed aside with mounds of photos I had to work on, and shopping I had to get done.  Also, it has been rainy so it kept me from pretty weather for shoots.  I felt like Cinderella, when she was trying to get all of her chores done so she could go to the ball, but the her to-do list just kept getting longer and longer.

I have been trying to cope with the pain of this weeks tragedy.  I was standing in line today at Walmart when I was suddenly face to face with the cover of a magazine that had photos of the Sandy Hook Elementary victims.  I hesitantly took one and opened it so see a photo of a little girl named Emelie, who looked very much like my little cousin, Maggie, who lives next to me.  They were about the same age.  I loved that her name was spelt with an ie at the end.  I've always thought that was so pretty.  I also saw photos of her parents running down the road looking for her in vain.  The tears came fast and I put it down quickly, and there I was standing in line, weeping, and trying to find my debit card to pay.  I went home and read more about each of the victims.  There was a little boy named Daniel who looked as sweet as he could be, and a teacher who had the exact same birthday as mine.  Two little girls were redheads, so cute.  All of the children were individually beautiful.  I can't imagine what their last memories were, and I don't want to.  The thought of so many parents, family, and people of that community was unbearable.  I learned today, although I'm not certain the accuracy, that the shooter attended that school as a child.  I wondered if he had been teased there, what else would lead him there?  Maybe he was so mad at the world and his community that he wanted to inflict as much acute pain as possible, and that is why he went to the school.  Whatever the motive, I'll never understand, and I'll never forget.  I keep trying find the magic in this holiday and find peace that the children are in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.  I am more grateful than ever for my little boy, and my prayers, thoughts and tears, pour out to all affected, and all of us everywhere with broken hearts.  Without prayer and the peace it can offer,  I don't know how we would overcome anything.

I got the chance to walk home tonight, alone on my street.  It was freezing and the sky was velvet black and sparkled with stars.  I was almost to my house, and then I heard bells from a church a couple blocks over.  They were playing "O Holy Night".  It was the prettiest and peaceful sound to hear.  I stopped for a second as my fear subsided and I looked up at the starry sky.  I just listened to the bells and was still.  I knew that everything would be alright.

O Holy Night, please listen, it brings the spirit of Christmas.

My Little Drummer Boy

A sneak peak of our Christmas Card theme, this was after he changed out of his costume.  He was a very professional model on this day and followed direction like a pro.  I can't wait to reveal our new Christmas card, but I want to send them out first so it will be next week!

This week has been a busy one, I have so many photos to work on I barely have time for anything else, I can't wait until this week is over and I will hopefully be all caught up and in time to get into the holiday spirit.  Maybe we will go see some lights, or go to the Alabama Theater for a good Christmas movie!  Whatever we do, I can' t wait!

Merry Christmas!

Sunday Stye: Soft Monochromatic

Lately I have been wanting to dress more wintery, even though it was in the 70's today.  Instead of Christmas reds and greens I wanted to do something soft and light like snow, and was inspired by my  fog blanketed surroundings this morning for a soft, natural look.  Also, I wanted to experiment with a monochromatic color palette, mixing soft colors neutrals with light metallic touches.  I want to try this kind of look more often!  I hope you like it!

Shirt (Forever21) Skirt (thrifted) Tights, Necklace, and Shoes (Shop Ruche) Hat (Target, on sale now!)

I was so sad, after I took these photo's my favorite necklace that I am wearing in these photos broke.  It had broken before but I was able to find the crystal piece and get it repaired, however this time, the bottom fell off (different place than last time) and I didn't realize it until it was to late.  I guess it would be silly for me to put up "Lost pendant!" signs everywhere with a little photo of it, but I am kind of tempted because it was my favorite long necklace.  :( And its not for sale anymore, so hopefully I will find one to replace it soon, after grieving time has commenced.

On a brighter note, I had a wonderful weekend visiting family and having our big Acker Family Christmas Party.  Cohen got an airplane from Santa and he loves it!  Then my sister made me amazing brownies today and that made me feel better after losing my necklace.  I love her!

Dressember: All that Jazz

Channeling the 20's today in honor of Dressember and my Black Friday steal at Ruche, this gorgeous 20's inspired drop waist dress was only $25 down from $67.  All it needed was a lace slip underneath, on old black wrap I've had forever, the pearls from Carlie's wedding, a vintage purse, and my favorite merlot mary-janes!
I tried to do a side chignon but it is so so...oh well, I tried to hide it with this flower clip that goes with the heels!

There was something so glamorous about the way women dressed in the 1920's and everything about that era seems so dazzling and fun.  I thought the shimmer of this purse would be the finishing touch to bring out the jazz of the era.

Dress & Earrings (Shop Ruche) Flower (Dollar General) Shoes (Nine West) Purse (Vintage) Cardigan (old Forever 21)

I hope everyone is having a wonderful December!  I went to the gym for the first time in forever and if feels good to be back in that routine, and away from my computer screen where I work on photo's all day long.  I am about to decide on whether or not I should make dinner or if we should go get something, I could really go for a Logan's steak, broccoli, and rolls right about now, lets see if the hubby agrees!  Oh yes, my baby did the cutest thing yesterday.  He got on his rocking horse and told me to get on too.  I pretended to sit down on the back and said, "So where are we going?" He says, "Nonna's house."  Nonna is my mom and we are really going to Birmingham this weekend for photoshoots and party's, we just will be taking our car instead of Cohen's horse.

DIY: Away in a Manger

DIY: How to make a natural manger scene!
Here are two manger scenes that I did with two different stars :)

2.  The second one I made with another star :)

I made a couple of these last year for Christmas presents.  My mom collects manger scenes, so I wanted to make her a handmade one.  I wanted it to be very natural and didn't set out of making my own manger, but since I couldn't find one pre-maid that went with my natural aesthetic, I decided to make one!  Everything for this project was bought at Hobby except for the star with was an old ornament.

Here is what you will need.
A bundle of branches, I used Natural Curly Ting Ting
Wooden Birch Boys
Small Wooden Ball (for the baby)
Small strip of burlap
Gold twine
Thin gold metallic fabric
Cotton balls
Scrap Fabrics in natural colors (I like going to the fabric section and asking for scraps, then you can pick many colors of scraps for very cheap)
Wooden base ( I found this one laying around in the basement)
Hot Glue
Small amount of hay

First, build your manger on the wood plank.  Cut branches evenly for the sides of the manger and glue them down, then cut them for the back in a way so that they will elevate to the tip of the roof.  Then I glued a "beam" for center peak of the roof and held it carefully until it glued, so I could begin gluing the sticks across the roof.  I then hid the part where all of the sticks meet the beam with three sticks in a triangular fashion.  I then glued some wispy curly pieces to the top.  I put frayed burlap around the edges of the manger where it meets the wood plank to hide the glue.

Next make a little crib out of of the sticks by gluing them together to form a little box, and I glued some hay inside.

For the sheep, glue the cotton balls around the base of the birch boy and then I used scissors to fray the edges of the cotton to make in look not so perfect.  Then I crafted each of the characters by carefully gluing small scraps of fabric around them and adding embellishments of gold and hay, and be sure to make a shepherd staff using a stick of the ting ting.

I didn't glue them down because I wanted them to be able to be picked up!

Finally add a star on the tip of the manger for the finishing touch!
